Focused Field Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Endodontic Practice

Martin D. Levin, DMD
Diplomate, American Board of Endodontics

Barry Pass, DDS, PhD
Diplomate, American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology

Course Dates:

4T Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16, 2012

4U Friday and Saturday, July 13 and 14, 2012

Introduction

Endodontic therapy depends on diagnostic radiographs and image-guided treatment. Periapical and panoramic radiography have been augmented by the recent introduction of high-resolution CBCT, allowing three-dimensional assessment of odontogenic and non-odontogenic lesions, canal morphology, root and alveolar fractures, resorptive lesions and anatomy prior to surgery. This lecture will highlight the advantages of CBCT imaging in light of recent research demonstrating a significant increase in lesion visualization when compared to periapical radiographs.

Educational objectives:

  1. Describe focused field high-resolution CBCT imaging and how it differs from standard dental CBCTs and medical CTs.
  2. Understand how volumetric analysis improves detection of endodontic and non-endodontic pathosis.
  3. Learn how to select cases for focused field CBCT examination.

Please join us for this two day course highlighting the advantages of CBCT imaging in light of recent research demonstrating a significant increase in lesion visualization when compared to periapical radiographs. Image interpretation, understanding artifacts, post treatment evaluation and implant site assessment will also be discussed.

Featuring the Kodak 9000 3D, we will explore the benefits of adding CBCT to an endodontic office setting, including, training, implementation, consent process, radiologist over-reads, and marketing.
