American Association of Endodontists, 2015 Annual Session

Dr. Martin D. Levin lectures at the American Association of Endodontists “To the Point” program.

Dr. Levin presented a “To the Point” lecture at the American Association of Endodontists 2015 Annual Session in Seattle titled “CBCT: A Short Guide to Flatten the Learning Curve.” In this lecture, Dr. Levin discussed the importance of diagnostic radiographs and image-guided treatment in endodontics (root canal therapy). High-resolution CBCT scans now allow three-dimensional assessment of odontogenic and non-odontogenic lesions, root canal morphology, revision treatment, root canal alveolar fractures, resorptive lesions and anatomy prior to surgery. Dr. Levin explained the advantages of CBCT imaging in light of recent research and highlighted the important patient benefits of this technology.

Additionally, on May 8, 2015, Dr. Levin presented “Using a New Biocompatible Polymeric Obturation Material that Expands on Water Sorption: How to Precisely Seal Round and Oval Shaped Canals in Three Dimensions without Compaction.”

Dr. Martin D. Levin is in private practice in Chevy Chase, Maryland and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania. At the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Levin is currently Chair of the Dean’s Council. He speaks nationally and internationally on advanced imaging technologies such as cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and clinical techniques.

In 2010, he served as Co-Chair of the Joint Special Committee on Cone Beam Computed Tomography of the American Association of Endodontists and the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.  He is a contributor to numerous textbooks and peer-reviewed research publications.

Dr. Levin earned his degree in dental medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972, with honors. After completing his post-doctoral residency in endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, and a member of the College of Diplomates. Journal of Endodontics Reviewer

Dr. Levin has completed his third term as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Journal of Endodontics. In this capacity, he has joined other panelists to review scientific manuscripts for the journal and provided guidance and approvals for articles submitted for publication. The Journal of Endodontics is edited by Dr. Ken Hargreaves, and is ranked 6th in worldwide dental journal impact ratings (SCImago).

Canadian Academy of Endodontics Annual Meeting

Dr. Levin addressed the Canadian Academy of Endodontics annual meeting in Banff, Canada, on August 28, 2015. He presented a lecture on the CPoint, a new polymeric hydrogel that expands on water sorption to obturate the root canal without compaction.

Dr. Levin will present an all day lecture on the endodontic applications of cone beam computed tomography at the Ontario Society of Endodontists on November 6, 2015 in Toronto, Canada.

Ontario Society of Endodontics in Toronto, CA

The Ontario Society of Endodontics and the Toronto Academy of Dentistry have invited Dr. Levin to speak on the recent introduction of limited field of view (FOV) high-resolution CBCT, allowing three-dimensional assessment of odontogenic and non-odontogenic lesions, root canal morphology, revision treatment, root and alveolar fractures, resorptive lesions and anatomy prior to surgery. This lecture will highlight the advantages of CBCT imaging in light of recent research demonstrating a significant increase in lesion visualization when compared to periapical radiographs.

Quad Schools Lecture, University of Texas at Houston

Houston, TX (February 21, 2014) Dr. Levin lectured at the Quad Schools Lecture a the University of Texas at Houston at the invitation of the residents and fellows in the Department of Endodontics. The endodontic programs in attendance were the University of Louisiana, Baylor College of Dentistry, University of Texas at Houston and WHASC at Joint Base San Antonio. Dr. Levin spoke about the CPoint, a new endodontic obturation system. He included a discussion on the use of CBCT in healing assessments and the advantages of using a materials with lower radiopacity value such as the CPoint.

Dr. Levin has been invited to address the Canadian Academy of Endodontists 51st Annual Meeting in on August 28, 2015 in Banff, Canada on new endodontic obturation technologies. The program will include published and in-process research that supports new approaches to endodontic treatment.

Dr. Levin joins committee to update the AAE-AAOMR CBCT Position Statement

Dr. Levin has been appointed to a special committee to update the Joint Position Statement of the American Association of Endodontists and American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology on the use of cone beam computed tomography in endodontics.  The committee update is scheduled to be published before the AAE Annual Session in Seattle, WA in May, 2015.
